What Is a Wedding Flower Stem Quantity Calculator?
This calculator turns your arrangement list — bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, centerpieces and boutonnieres/corsages — into a single stem count you can hand to your florist or use to budget a DIY flower order. It multiplies each arrangement type by its typical stem count, adds everything together, and then pads the total with a waste buffer so you are not short on the day of the event.
Ordering exactly the "book" number of stems is risky: fresh flowers arrive with some short stems, bruised petals, or blooms that do not open properly. Wholesalers and florists routinely order 10–15% more than the arrangement math calls for, and this tool builds that buffer in automatically.
How to Read Your Results
Total Stems to Order
This is your grand total, including the waste buffer — the number to give a florist or use as your DIY shopping list target.
Bouquet Stems
The combined stem count for the bridal bouquet and all bridesmaid bouquets, before the buffer is applied.
Centerpiece Stems
The total stems needed across every table centerpiece you plan to build.
Boutonniere/Corsage Stems
The stems needed for groomsmen boutonnieres, family corsages and similar small pieces — these use far fewer stems each but add up across a large wedding party.
Real-World Example
A wedding with 1 bridal bouquet (24 stems), 4 bridesmaid bouquets (12 stems each), 10 centerpieces (12 stems each) and 10 boutonnieres/corsages (1 stem each), with a 10% buffer, works out like this:
| Item | Count | Stems Each | Subtotal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bridal bouquet | 1 | 24 | 24 |
| Bridesmaid bouquets | 4 | 12 | 48 |
| Centerpieces | 10 | 12 | 120 |
| Boutonnieres/corsages | 10 | 1 | 10 |
The base total is 202 stems. Adding a 10% buffer (21 stems) brings the final order to 223 stems.
Tips for Ordering Flower Stems
- Order by variety, not just total count. If you're mixing roses, ranunculus and greenery, apply this calculator's totals separately for each flower type.
- Ask your florist about bunch sizes. Wholesale flowers are often sold in bunches of 10 or 25 stems, so round your final number up to a full bunch.
- Order flowers 1–2 days before the event so they have time to hydrate and open, and so you can spot-check quality with time to reorder if needed.
- Greenery and filler stems are usually calculated and ordered separately from focal flowers — this tool covers focal-flower stem counts.
