What Is a Cider Specific Gravity Sugar Addition Calculator?
When cider or wine juice doesn't have enough natural sugar to reach the alcohol level you want, brewers add table sugar to raise the starting (original) specific gravity — a process called chaptalization. This calculator tells you exactly how many pounds of sugar to stir into your batch to move from your current gravity reading to your target gravity.

How to Read Your Results

The amount of plain table sugar (sucrose) to dissolve into your batch to reach the target gravity. All three units show the same amount so you can weigh it out with whatever scale you have.
Gravity Point Increase
Specific gravity is often discussed in "points" — the digits after the decimal, multiplied by 1000. A jump from 1.050 to 1.065 is a 15-point increase.
Real-World Example
You have 5 gallons of fresh-pressed apple juice reading 1.050 SG, and you want a stronger cider closer to 1.065 SG before pitching yeast.
