What Is a Square Foot Gardening Plant Count Calculator?

A classic 4 ft × 4 ft SFG bed (16 grid cells total), planted entirely with bush beans at 9 plants per cell:

Tips for Square Foot Gardening
- Mix multiple crops in one bed by adjusting the allocation percentage for each crop and running the calculator separately for each.
- Trellis vining crops like cucumbers and squash upward to keep their footprint at the lower per-cell counts this chart assumes.
- Use quality soil mix (the SFG method recommends a specific compost/peat/vermiculite blend) since plants are grown much closer together than in traditional beds.
