What Is a Panorama Field of View Calculator?
Stitching multiple photos into a panorama widens your field of view well beyond what a single frame can capture, but the total isn't a simple multiplication. Each frame needs to overlap the last one so stitching software can find matching points, which eats into how much new area each additional shot actually adds. This calculator works out your single-frame field of view from your lens and sensor, then estimates the total stitched field of view from your shot count and overlap.
How to Read Your Results
Total Stitched Field of View
This is the estimated horizontal angle your finished panorama will cover, based on your shot count and overlap. It's capped at 360° for a full-circle panorama.
Single-Frame Field of View
This is the horizontal angle of view captured in a single, unstitched shot with your focal length and sensor width.
New FOV Added Per Shot
After the first frame, every additional shot only adds this much new field of view, since the rest of the frame overlaps with the previous shot.
Shots Needed for Full 360°
This is roughly how many shots, at your current focal length and overlap setting, it would take to complete a full 360° panorama.
Real-World Example
Say you're shooting a landscape panorama with a 24mm lens on a full-frame camera, planning 8 shots with 30% overlap.

Tips for Shooting Panoramas
- Use manual exposure and manual focus so brightness and sharpness stay consistent across every frame.
- Shoot in portrait orientation for wider panoramas — it captures more vertical resolution to crop from after stitching.
- Use a panoramic tripod head to rotate around the lens's true nodal point and avoid parallax stitching errors.
- Keep overlap between 20–40% — too little makes stitching fail, too much wastes shots.
