What Is a Wilks Score Calculator?
The Wilks score is powerlifting's standard tool for comparing lifters of different bodyweights on equal terms. It multiplies your raw total (squat + bench + deadlift, or any total you want to compare) by a coefficient derived from a bodyweight-based formula, producing a single number that lets a 60kg lifter and a 140kg lifter be ranked against each other fairly.
It's the formula used behind the scenes in most powerlifting federations' "best lifter" awards, and it remains one of the most widely used relative-strength scores in the sport.
How to Read Your Results
Wilks Score
Your total lifted multiplied by the Wilks coefficient for your bodyweight and sex. Higher scores indicate greater relative strength, independent of bodyweight.
Wilks Coefficient
The multiplier itself, calculated from a 5th-degree polynomial fitted to your bodyweight. It's smaller for lifters near the "average" competitive bodyweight and larger toward the light and heavy extremes.

Real-World Example
A male lifter weighing 83kg with a 400kg total.

That same 400kg total would produce a different Wilks score at a different bodyweight — heavier lifters need a bigger total to match it, and lighter lifters need a smaller one, because the coefficient adjusts for the natural strength advantage of size.
Tips for Using Wilks Scores
- Use it to compare across weight classes in the same meet, not just within your own class.
- Track your own Wilks score over time as a way to see real strength gains even as your bodyweight changes.
- Some federations now use newer formulas (like DOTS or newer Wilks 2020 coefficients) alongside or instead of the original Wilks — check which one your federation uses for official rankings.
- Coefficients are least accurate at extreme bodyweights far outside typical competitive ranges.
